Do’s & Don’ts: How to Pick a Paint ColorDecember 20, 2022
Decorating for Christmas and paint color trends may seem like they have nothing to do with one another but hear me out. While you’re flipping through home magazines or Pinterest for inspiration on paint colors, pause for a second and imagine how that color will look when you decorate for the holidays.
Think about it, how you decorate for Christmas and the other Winter holidays reflects your style more than any other time of year. Are your decorations hip and modern or simple and traditional? Country and rustic or formal and on trend? Are you minimalistic or do you go all out? Now, picture how your decorations will look with that color. Does it work, or ewww?
Look at the pictures above and to the right; they are of two very different living rooms. Which would look better with your decorations – the more traditional (some may say “boring” off white), or the bold dark blue? There is no right answer, by the way.
My advice? Choose either a light, pleasing base color for your walls, OR a deep, strong tone (navy blue, deep dark green, even black – boldness is “in” right now). Then you can mix in the bright colored decorations that make you happy and give you that holiday spirit. If you are happy with how it looks over the holidays, chances are you will be pleased with the look at other times of the year.
